Okay friend, let’s dive in!!
Have you had a hard time hiring good Hairstylists for your salon?
Yes? Here’s why:
You probably weren’t clear about your non-negotiables.
When you’re VERY clear about who you want in your salon (personality, schedule, and talent-wise), that’s when you go out there and attract/find them.
Or, if they find you or are a referral from someone you know, you have a requirement list. If they match up, then they’re a good fit. If not, then they aren’t and you move on!
I’ve seen it all too often with salon owners whom I coach inside my online programs, one-on-one or by way of my Salon Consulting services- they don’t know EXACTLY who they want at their salon (they aren’t clear about their non-negotiables), so they hire the first person who applies.
Trust me, down the road, you WILL have issues with this approach.
Things like this are OK -and a great idea- to look for when hiring an employee or chair renter:
🔥 Has a positive attitude
🔥 Is available to work evenings and weekends (if that’s when you need them)
🔥 Professional
🔥 A team player (cleans up the salon, asks others if they need help on their downtime/participates in salon events/etc.)
🔥 Offers keratin treatments, women’s cuts, and all types of color services (if that’s what you’re looking for)
🔥 Communicative (be clear about what this looks like to you)
The same is true if you’re a technician! You should also have a list of your non-negotiables. And this should definitely be discussed during the meet & greet process.
This WILL lead to a positive, fun, and expansive work environment.
So tell me, does this strategy resonate with you? Yes or no? Comment below and let me know. 🙂
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT…
When I was coaching another Hairstylist one-on-one, she asked me this: “Gina, why would another Hairstylist rent from me and not from the salon down the street?“
I thought that was a great question! My answer was: You’re going to lead with the benefits of them renting from YOU. You’re going to lead with why your salon space is so amazing. You’re going to lead with specific ways your salon stands out from the crowd. You’re going to lead with examples of other happy chair renters that are currently renting from you.
In this video, I’m sharing EXACTLY how to attract the type of stylist you want in your salon and, even more importantly, how to keep them!

Alright friend – that’s all for now….
I just know that what I’ve shared here is going to be SO useful for you, but remember, if you want something – you gotta get out there and ATTRACT IT!
