Okay friend, let’s dive in!!
I’ve coached hundreds of Hairstylists over the last five years since becoming a business coach. Recently, I was coaching a stylist and she brought up a few reasons why she was “stuck” in her hair business. One of the things that I’m REALLY good at is seeing patterns in people that I’m working with, coming up with solutions to help them think though a problem differently and then creating content to help others out if they’re having the same type of issues.
So, my friend…If you’re feeling like something just isn’t quite right with your business, keep reading… I hope I can help you out too.
What’s keeping you stuck in your business?🤔
1- You believe your surroundings have to be perfect to charge high pricing.💰
Ask yourself this: Would my haircuts and color services look/turn out any different if I did hair in a McDonald’s bathroom? Really think about it.
I’m guessing the answer is no. You’re a talented stylist WHEREVER you do hair. So don’t let the space you do your creative work in get you tripped up and scared to charge high pricing.
2- You don’t know how much $ you attract per hour. Honeyyyyyyyy!!!! If you don’t know your numbers you’re going to be running around in circles feeling exhausted, depleted and burned out very soon!
Here’s a simple way to figure out how much money you attract per hour. Add up the number of hours you work BTC per week. Times that by 4 (4 weeks per month), then times that number by 12 (12 months in a year). Then divide the total you make per year by that number and that gives you what you make per hour. 🙌🏻
Here’s an example from a stylist that I was coaching recently who didn’t know how much she made per hour. And then we chatted about why it’s so important to know this. She creates, on average, $160K per year. She works 50 hours BTC per week.
50×4 =200 (hours per month)
200×12=2,400 (hours per year)
$160,000 divided by 2,400 equals $66 an hour (minus the cost of her product) ✂️
NOW we have some numbers! So when you’re providing a service, you can think about how that feels. Does that number per hour feel good, bad or somewhere in between?
3- You think your pictures and/or videos aren’t good enough to share online so you ghost your account or you’re just not consistent with posting. 📱
Hear me when I say this, my friend… on average, 4-6% of your followers will see a post. That’s good and bad.
Let me start with the good news: For example, if you have 100 followers online, 5 people will see a post you share. So it does NOT have to be perfect because 5 out of the 100 followers will so your post. No one is going to market your amazing work for you- YOU have to do it.
On the flip side, if only 5 out if your 100 followers sees your post, that means the only way this strategy will work (posting online to convert), is by showing up consistently. If you’re too busy making it perfect, you’ll waste a LOT of time and no one will see your dang post. So just get it out there! 💃🏻
4- You aren’t surrounded by someone or a group of people who are 1-2 steps ahead of you.
Look, when you put skin in the game (invest in yourself) you show up differently. Period. When you surround yourself with people who ALSO find value in investing in themselves, their education and their mindset, you show up differently. You prioritize your time, you set healthy boundaries, you set big, scary goals -and stick to them. You aren’t floundering around chasing your tail.
5- You’re too busy to make a change in your business and aren’t leaving room to map out and dream up big picture thinking.
I like to look at this idea as working IN your biz instead of ON your biz. You need time to think, breathe and work in self care in your weekly schedule. If you’re barely eating lunch, leaving the salon at 10:00 pm or have a 2 month long wait list, you’ll never have time to move forward in your business. There’s just too much to take care of on a daily basis. So take a step back, look at where you can charge more money for your time and work a few hours less per week.
So tell me… Which one can you relate to the most? 1,2,3,4 or 5? Comment on this blog and let’s continue this conversation. 💫
