Everyone asked me what the theme was!
The problem is: I didn’t have one. “Pink” is what I told them.
My honey and I made a plan to host Olivia’s first birthday party at our house with immediate family (all 30! of them).
I would not consider myself a stellar “formal party planner”. In fact, I’d rather NOT do it. But I really wanted it to be a special day for our little girl and wanted to celebrate this milestone – Greg and I made it one FULL year raising, and taking care of, a little human being!!
That day we were celebrating her special day, our new little family, and all of the love and support that surrounded us.
Planning a party like this reminded me of when I have a BIG business idea.
It seems scary at first, but when you check your mindset and shift your thoughts from “I’m not good at party planning” to “I got this. I’m going to take it one step at a time, do the best I can, and ask for help,” it becomes MUCH easier!
In the end, it went exactly how I hoped/planned and this is what I learned from the experience:
– don’t try to do everything yourself
– plan/prepare WAY in advance
– be clear on what you want and over-communicate your expectations with your honey, your vendors, and those who are helping out
– get a good night’s sleep the day before
– take a deep breath during the party and soak in everything you see, hear, and smell (those are the precious moments)
– going to the party store 3 days in a row because you can’t decide on balloon colors is OK
– pat yourself on the back for doing uncomfortable things
– celebrate the win at the end of the day
– show appreciation to those who helped
Now, you. What’s something that you’re working on that seems scary or what’s something you’ve overcome that seemed scary? Comment below and let me know! I want to cheer you on. 💜
